The document also shows Iris’s remarkable life journey as a woman.

Following are some of Iris’s quotes from the documentary Iris:

  1. I like individuality, so lost these days, there are so much sameness. Everything is so homogenized. I hated it.
  2. People interviewed me and kept asking me about all these rules, I say I don’t have any rules because I would only be breaking them so it’s a waste of time. With me, it’s not intellectual. It’s all gut.
  3. Life is grey and dull and you might as well have a little fun when you dress and amuse people.
  4. I don’t sit there judging. If they’re happy that way, you know, it’s better to be happy than well dressed.
  5. I could never be a good friend of anybody who wasn’t curious or have a sense of humor. I think those are the two great gifts that I got in my cradle. I really believe that.
  6. I never feel I am pretty, I don’t feel pretty now. I’m not a pretty person. I don’t like pretty. So I don’t feel badly and I think it worked out well because I found that, for instance, all the girls that I know who were very pretty girls and got by on their looks, as time went on and they faded, they were nothing. And they were very, very disappointed. When you’re somebody like myself, in order get around attractive, you have to develop something, you have to learn something, and you have to do something. So you become a bit more interesting. And when you get older, you get by on that.
